Book
hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Probably not "used" at all--no signs of any wear, and receipt for book is included--but not in shrink wrap and some careless handler made a small ding on spine and volume has been kept somewhere that has lent it a faint but discernible musty odor--otherwise price would be much higher; 128 p., immaculate and unmarked, spine firm; boards pristine, as is glossy purple unclipped d.j. with optical illusion design; many fabulous b&w photos and drawings.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. 128 pp. First edition. Survey of modern architecture in Latin America; text in English; black and white photographs, diagrams throughout. Binding tight; boards clean; dust jacket pristine; this copy in FINE CONDITION. Quoting the publisher: The impression made by the modern architecture of Latin America often begins and ends "unfairly" with Brazilia. An extraordinary demonstration of man's ability to carve a new city out of the jungle in the brief span of three years, Brazilia is nevertheless but a part of a far larger picture which makes up architecture in Latin America today. Indeed, a major value of this overview on modern architecture in the Spanish-and Portuguese-speaking nations of Latin America is to show the continued vitality of that architecture both in its variety and its coming of age. Size: 25 x 18 cm. 0.0.

Encuadernación de tapa blanda. Condition: Muy bien. In-8. #1 Jul 1965 #9 May 1966. (Complete set) Wrappers. Collaborators : Bernard Russel, Barbara Gullahorn, Jerry Rubin, Celso Furtado, Albert Camus, Donal Duncan, Juan Bosch, Among others. Mischa Cotlar (1913-2007), was one of the most outstanding mathematicians of his generation. A native of Ukraine, he lived in Argentina since his childhood and later emigrated to the United States and Venezuela. It was difficult to hear him talk about politics, and even more so criticizing someone; yet he had firm principles, and he lived and acted in such a way as to never betray them. One method of deciphering his moves is to relate them to local situations that made him decide, or forced him, to change his place of residence. Political intolerance was what caused his arrival in Cuyo Argentina in 1952, and then his departure in 1956. In 1966 he decided to leave the country after the government coup; and in 1974 he had to escape before the threats of the paramilitary group AAA: "The Mischa's association with groups concerned about the ethical role of the scientist in society and his connection with pacifist movements lead to the raid on a country house belonging to Yanny Frenkel (mathematician, was his wife since 1938 and also his collaborator) and that it had been used by friends to hide while they prepared a trip from Argentina to other countries. From there come, among others, Daniel Goldstein and Cora Sadosky, dear friends of the Cotlar, those who leave Argentina, persecuted, and travel to Caracas. Together with Cora Sadosky, in 1965, he had founded the magazine Column 10, from where war crimes were denounced, the already foreseeable effects of deforestation and human rights violations. Talking about Mischa Cotlar forces us to highlight, along with her mathematics, her deep humanism and, in particular, his concern that scientists assume responsibilities before society. His anti-war commitment led him to cooperate with different international peace organizations in Cold War times, such as Bertrand Russell's Peace Foundation, from who was friend. Together with Cora Ratto de Sadosky - friend and disciple - he created, in 1957, the Einstein Foundation, whose mission was to facilitate the study of young people talents lacking in resources; the culmination of all this work is reflected in the magazine Columna 10, which analyzed - linking science, ethics and politics - events such as the war of Vietnam or processes like the nuclear race.
