A beautiful rich tapestry full colour production of lithographed illustrations by several famous artists of the day, each celebrating the special history of the British Empire. Each illustration commemorates the 'Pageant of the Empire' which were historical pageants performed at the Empire Stadium (later known as Wembley Stadium in 1924) which was a part of the British Empire Exhibition. Included in the rear of the book is a fldg four panel fold-out of 'The Pageant' by Frank Brangwyn, R.A, clean and completely intact. On front cover surrounding the title of the British Empire crest in a decorative wreath are the countries: New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Newfoundland, Canada and India. Wear to extremeties. Cover: dusting of soiling, few only scratches and rubbing. Spine: surface rubbing, some light wear, vertical creasing and head foot with splits and part of the cover detached. Edges: faint old foxing and light yellowing. Very light few only old foxing to mostly the illustration pages white space margins. Bottom edge of one page bottom edge with 4 cm closed tear by spine; another page bottom edge with 3 cm closed tear. Interiors illustrations still bright and bold text strong. Binding is very good albeit a split to guttering in one section of 15 cm to bottom and 4 cm to head. 55p Large folio: 400 x 310 mm.

The LNER presentation edition, with the extra page and plate tipped-in. With stunning full-colour lithographs throughout. Written by E. V. Lucas the English writer, editor and humorist. Illustrated throughout by three notable artists. Frank Brangwyn was a highly regarded artist, who received numerous accolades for his artistic work, including full membership of the Royal Academy. MacDonald Gill was a artist, cartographer and leading figure of the Arts and Crafts movement. Gerald Spencer Pryse was a notable lithographer. In a paper covered binding. Externally, sound. Light rubbing to the spine, boards and extremities. Light bumping to the spine and extremities. Internally, firmly bound.
