Profusely illustrated throughout with thirty black and white figure illustrations of grapes and fifty-six black and white figure illustrations in the text. ***Very good in brown cloth-covered boards with gilt titles and gilt decorative borders to spine and gilt and black floral decoration of a vine to front board and black titles and rules to front board. Offsetting to rear board where a card has in the past been inserted underneath the removable clear plastic covers (not fixed or adhered; can be easily taken off). Dark brown front and rear free endpapers and pastedowns. Contemporaneous owner's name to top of title-page in black fountain pen ink: 'G.J. Pillin? Christmas 1895.' Owner's name and place in soft pencil to recto of front free endpaper: 'Thomas Thorp Guildford 7 June 1984.' Pages clean. Spine tight. 216mm x 144mm. ***199 pages plus xvi pages of advertisements to rear. ***Gilt decoration of grapes to front board and gilt titles and borders to spine bright. Profusely illustrated with many fine drawings of grape varieties. Hard to find in nice bright condition. Very detailed antiquarian book on vines and cultivating vines.
