From the Dust Jacket: "Absolute secrecy has heretofore veiled the names of American merchant ships and American seaman who have encountered dangers as terrible as those faced by American soldiers and sailors. This book reveals the debt America owes to her merchant marine in the present war. No names are disguised. The men whose ordeals are described here had their ships sunk under them in the North Atlantic and to the south of Good Hope; they were attacked by shellfire and by bombs in the Indian Ocean and in the North Sea; they survived day upon day of attack by planes and by submarine in icy waters near the Arctic Circle; they were blistered in open boats in the tropic seas. to take fresh cargoes to the fighting fronts." . Condition: Near Fine. [xv] pp339 A history of the Roosevelt family by Hall Roosevelt who was the nephew of President Theodore Roosevelt. Near fine in blue cloth, printed on high quality paper, in a very good dust jacket, chipped to the edges with a watermark to the foot of the spine. Well illustrated. Extra postage charges may apply as this is a heavy volume. This book comes from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt collection of Frederick Baldwin Adams Jr, 1910 - 2001, the son of Ellen Walters Delano who was a first cousin to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Adams became a passionate bibliophile who served as director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City for two decades and compiled a significant personal collection relating to F.D.R.
