From Publishers Weekly:
The prolific Colombian writer Garcia Marquez won the Nobel Prize for Cien anos de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude). Fans and newcomers to his works will find Norma's series of thin and exquisitely illustrated short stories a pleasurable new way to experience the author. These hardcover books, which could be mistaken for children's books at first glance, feature illustrations that suit the mood of Garcia Marquez's haunting fables. These small-town dramas, laid out with large typeface, are enhanced by somber and evocative paintings that are sometimes two-page spreads. In La siesta del martes a destitute mother, along with her young daughter, sneaks into a distant town during siesta time hoping nobody will see her. She is there to visit the grave of her murdered burglar son and ends up facing the disapproving stares of the townspeople. In Un se?or muy viejo con unas alas enormes people in a small coastal town find a fallen and weak old angel and don't know what to do with him. The sometimes old-fashioned Colombian Spanish used here may be difficult for some readers, but it is worth every effort. This series is recommended for all types of libraries and bookstores because of its appeal to a wide range of ages, audiences, and collectors. Adriana Lopez, "Criticas"
