Review:
"The author's difficult pursuit of objectivity has brought him criticisms from both sides of the ideological spectrum [but] they have not made a dent in his impressive bibliography" (La Gaceta de Fin de Semana, 2004).

"Along a third of a century, Mesa-Lago's oeuvre has been an excellent guide to understand the Cuban economy... a rigorous economic analysis" (Encuentro, 2004-2005).

"Those interested in Cuba should definitely benefit from reading this thoughtful piece, based on meticulous and well research work" (Journal of Latin American Studies, 2005)
