Pero Tintín cree que Tchang está vivo y parte hacia Katmandú con el objetivo de organizar una expedición de rescate. Tintín en el Tíbet coincide con una época de graves turbulencias en la vida de Hergé , y su creación constituyó una verdadera terapia para él que le ayudó verdaderamente a salir adelante. Según nos cuenta el propio Hergé en aquella época, (año 1958), atravesaba una verdadera una crisis y sus sueños y pesadillas eran casi siempre blancos. Estos sueños se repetían siempre y el autor se vio en la necesidad de acudir a un psiquiatra que le aconsejó que abandonara este trabajo porque nunca lo acabaría. Cosa que por suerte Hergé no hizo. No solo acabó Tintín en el Tibet , sino que, en la opinión de muchos, es una de sus obras maestras.
