Winnie-the-Pooh is the most popular children's book in Slovenia. It is also the most popular children's book in the world, but it is especially popular in Slovenia. Slovenian or Slovene is spoken by 2.5 million people in Slovenia and belongs to the group of South Slavic languages. Slovenia is at the North end of the Former Republic of Yugoslavia. This translation into Slovenian is part of project to translate Winnie-the-Pooh into other languages. The idea is children need to learn to read at an early age and the best way to teach them to read is to provide reading materials that they find interesting. Children around the world laugh when they see Winnie-the-Pooh saying and doing silly things. Since Winnie-the-Pooh is the most popular children's book world-wide, translating this book into the different languages of the world will be conducive to teaching children to read in those languages. Ishi Press has reprinted translations of Winnie-the-Pooh into 43 languages thus far. We have published it in Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bengali, Bulgarian, Cebuano, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Esperanto, Finnish, French, Frisian, German, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Sinhalese, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Yiddish, Hindi, Urdu, Khowar, Kalasha and Latin. We have three more languages ready.

About the Author:
This translation into Slovenian is by Majda Stanovnik. She was born 4 March 1934 in Ljubljana. She has worked as a professional translator. She enrolled at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, where she studied comparative literature and literary theory, and in 1961 graduated from the Department of Comparative Literature and Literary Theory. From 1956 she was a translator and publicist in a liberal profession, and between 1973 and 1994 she worked as a researcher at the Institute for Literature and Literary Sciences of the ZRC SAZU. She retired in 1994. Alan Alexander Milne was born in London on January 18, 1882, the third and youngest son of a schoolmaster. In 1920, Christopher Robin Milne was born, an event that was to change the history of children's literature. In 1923, during a rainy holiday in Wales, Milne began work on a collection of verses for children. The result was When We Were Very Young, published in 1924. Demand for Milne's whimsical work was overwhelming, and in 1926, he duplicated his earlier success with the publication of Winnie-the-Pooh. Milne continued to be a prolific essayist, novelist, and poet until his death in 1956.
