In this poetic and clever new work, using the photographic image in an almost geometric collage, Dibbets takes two photographs, a landscape and a seascape, and repeatedly juxtaposes them in various ways that divide the horizon. Coming out of the 1970s European conceptual art movement, Dibbets is a major figure in Dutch art and on the international scene; his brilliant 1994 installation, Homage to Arago, embedded bronze disks in the sidewalks of Paris to mark the meridian specified by the 18th century astronomer.
