Guyton, Price, Smith, Walker - Softcover
Wade Guyton (b. 1972, Indiana), Seth Price (b. 1973, Jerusalem), Josh Smith (b. 1976, Tennessee) and Kelley Walker (b. 1969, Georgia) work both together and apart in New York. They are not a formal artists group but the heart of a scene, ever changing: Guyton and Walker have organized joint exhibitions, and all four realize joint projects in varying constellations, often with other artists and theorists. This, their first book together, is another collaborative work. In it, they squeeze canvases through inkjet printers, paint over digitally altered media images with chocolate, scan freshly chopped fruits and vegetables and make recycling emblems into gold-plated sculptures. They sample unidentified music, text and images; photocopy their names hundreds of times over and otherwise torment every conceivable technology of our everyday digital lives with unsuitable materials and equally unsuitable applications--a dynamic post-Pop take on the influence of artistic strategies through advertising, the media and the everyday.

Book Description Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 4to, card covers, 192pp., ills. First edition. Exhibition catalogue for the group show, 2006. Texts in German and English. Odd features, suggestive of production gaffes or of an early state of a later amended publication: Beatrix Ruf's "Foreword" is simply a place-holder ("Beatrix text this spread"); Fia Backstrom's "Pump Up the Jam" appears not at p.161 but at p.190; pp.175-190 (recto only) print reproductions of a single Gahan Wilson "New Yorker" cover (seemingly of no relevance to the exhibition). Of further note, all reproductions are in b/w, not color. Otherwise, the texts are in their appropriate spots, though the brief (2pp. each) artist biographies which appear between pages 166 and 173 are not advertised on the "Contents" page.
