Sigmund Freud dachte, fühlte und wertete in "Vater-Kategorien". Als Vaterfigur wirkte er auf seine "Söhne" ein und befaßte sich in seinen Schriften intensiv mit der Vater-Sohn-Beziehung. Bis 1910 leitete er die psychoanalytische Gruppe liberal. Danach erzwangen die Krisen in der Bewegung eine "Konstituierung der Vatermacht", die in drei Dimensionen zum Ausdruck kam: in einer hierarchischen Gruppenstruktur, in theoretischen Dogmen und dem Bestreben von "Vater Freud", "Gesetzgeber" der Bewegung zu sein. Der autoritär-patriarchalische Hintergrund der Psychoanalyse wird hier zum ersten Mal auf seine Genese und Auswirkungen hin untersucht.
