This sequel to part one of Brown's memoirs, deals with the second part of his career as a missionary priest. In the same fresh, first-person style as the first book, he describes his appointments even further north, within the Arctic Circle. Brown depicts moving a community (lock, stock and barrel and at government instigation) from one side of a bay on the Arctic Ocean to the other. He also relates small, often amusing details, such as the story of a woman about to fly south to deliver her baby in safety, who carried a suitcase filled with whale meat - to sustain her in labour, she said. Priest, Journalist/publisher, aviator, painter, trapper, fisher, hunter and guide, Bern Will Brown's adventure continues, right up to his marriage and the establishment of a hunting and fishing lodge.

From the Inside Flap:
The face of the Canadian Arctic has changed forever since Bern Will Brown left his home in Rochester, New York, at age 28 to find adventure as a Roman Catholic priest in the far North. In Arctic Journal II, Brown continues the incredible story of his life's work, which he began in his best-selling Arctic Journal.

The years from 1955 to 1999 were filled with activity. Brown found himself building a log church at Nahanni Butte; building a log Mission, church, health centre, fishing lodge, and Co-op store at Colville Lake; keeping sled-dog teams; hunting; fishing; working as a furtrader, medic, postmaster, returning officer and dogcatcher; and photographing and painting northern scenes and people. In 1971, he received permission from Rome to marry; on July 19, 1971, he and Margaret Steen, who is part Inuit, were married by Bishop Paul Piche. Amidst all this activity, he chronicled events - the comic, the tragic, the everyday, the once-in-a-lifetime - of life in the North.

About the Author:
Bern Will Brown and his wife, Margaret, continue to live at Colville Lake, above the Arctic circle.
