About the Author:
Né à Budapest en 1921, Georges Walter émigre très tôt avec sa famille, naturalisée française en 1932. Journaliste (presse écrite, radio et télévision), dialoguiste et parolier, il publie son premier roman, Les Enfants d'Attila, en 1967, et obtient le Prix Interallié pour Des vols de Vanessa en 1972. Le Palanquin des larmes (Robert Laffont, 1975), le récit autobiographique de Chow Ching Lie qu'il a recueilli, est rapidement devenu un best-seller. Il réédite cette expérience, vingt ans plus tard, avec Pedro Long Nguyên, dans La Montagne des parfums. Il est également l'auteur d'une biographie de référence d'Edgar Allan Poe, parue chez Flammarion.
