La comĂdie que Marivaux fait jouer au ThĂĂtre-Italien en 1724 aurait donc dĂ» s’intituler plutĂ´t Le Faux Chevalier. Le titre nous trompe-t-il ou le travestissement de la condition sociale l’emporte-t-il ici sur le travestissement du sexe ? Marivaux en tout cas a un but : dissiper l’illusion qui accompagne les sentiments, faire tomber le masque de l’infĂme LĂlio, et mettre Ă nu la vĂritĂ. Jeu brillant de la surprise et du badinage, mais aussi jeu cruel oĂą le comique ne va pas sans noirceur.
