Beware, though, thinking that there is no more than that. Stories may just be stories, but like the poetry they emulate, sometimes there is more under the stanzas than is first apparent. Learning a little more about me... It’s the age-old question, really, full of cliché and well-worn tropes. If we only knew a little bit more about ourselves, perhaps we wouldn’t have made those same decisions. Perhaps things would be different. Perhaps we would have understood what was happening, what was going to happen. If we only knew just a little bit more... Maybe our stories would all be different, we reason. Maybe our characters would be more adroit. Maybe our experiences more poignant, if we had but a pinch more understanding of our own nature. Perhaps we would find something fresh among the familiar, new things among the old. I find out a little more about myself with every poem. Each new story, each fresh character brings with it a piece of myself. My dry bios may list that I am a father of two, a husband, a brother, a son. It may let you know I live in NW Missouri, or that I am over a half century in age. I can tell you I write novels and poetry and publish a magazine, or that I own rental property and do maintenance at a local convalescent center. I can spout these check points, but to truly know a little more about me, to know what drives the bio, we both must learn together. Read these poetic stories. Then perhaps my bio will be more clear. Then perhaps you can tell me what you find.
