About the Author:
Midiam E. Astacio Méndez has a Master s Degree in Puerto Rican Studies with a Minor in History of Puerto Rico. She is a graduate from the Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe. Midiam also studied at the School of Visual Arts of Puerto Rico, where she completed her undergraduate studies. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA Degree in Education in Arts, with a minor in Graphic Design. Currently, she is an art and history teacher at the Department of Education of Puerto Rico. She is also a promoter of cultural arts and crafts, and works as Director in the program of Fine Arts and Crafts at the Department of Continued Education of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus. Josefina Barceló Jiménez has an undergraduate degree in Education and a Master s Degree in Administration and School Supervision. As an educator, she spent her first 15 years in the field, creating and administrating pre-school centers that emphasized on the integral development of the child in Puerto Rico. She also worked as education consultant for several advertising agencies in Puerto Rico and other companies, like Nabisco, Inc. Currently, she works for the local newspaper, El Nuevo Día, as editor for Mi Pequeño Día and El Nuevo Día Educador. She has written several books and theater plays, which have been shown in well-known theaters across the island. She was nominated by the Who s Who in U.S.A. as an outstanding person and has won some awards for her work as a reporter, including, the UNESCO medal of Puerto Rico.
