About the Author:

M. Fethullah Gülen is an Islamic scholar and thinker, a prolific writer and poet. Born in Erzurum, Turkey, in 1941, he was trained in the religious sciences by several celebrated Muslim scholars and spiritual masters, among them Haci Sidki Efendi (proper Qur’anic recitation), Sadi Efendi (Arabic), and Muhammed Lutfi Efendi (spiritual lessons). Gülen also studied the principles and theories of modern social and physical sciences. Based on his exceptional skills in learning and focused self-study, he soon surpassed his peers. In fact, his scholastic achievement and obvious intellectual capability caused him to be offered teaching posts even though he was a young teenager at that time.
