About the Author:
Dari Mullins, author and motivational speaker, has been homeschooling her three teenagers for over ten years. She fell in love with history and geography when she began researching home education in 1995.

Dari and her husband, Allen, have taught their children at home since the oldest started kindergarten in 1997. Realizing early that traditional textbooks were not the route she wanted in educating her children, Dari utilized notebooking and the unit study approach. This passion for non-traditional methods led her to write curriculum for her own family and eventually teaming up with Loree Pettit to write Galloping the Globe and Cantering the Country.

Dari and her family currently live in Asheville, NC where she teaches several classes and stays active with the local homeschool community. She remains dedicated to helping homeschool families prosper and delight in learning together.

Review:
While it may look like there is a ton of information in this book, it is not overwhelming or intimidating in the least! This course is designed to be done in one to three years. If you plan on touching every continent in one school year, you will not be able to study every country, read every book listed, or do every activity. You choose what you want to cover; usually I determine that by the level of interest my daughter has. If she is really into learning about a specific country, we carry on; if she doesn't seem too interested, we just make a short stop and continue on to the next country. Choose the activities and books that are right for your family and don't think you have to cover it all! The course is laid out in such a way that you can easily read one or two of the books and skip the others there is no specific way that this course has to be done just relax and enjoy yourself. I'm confident that you and your kids will love this introduction to world geography! --Holly Cameron, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

he lessons are not scripted; the authors introduce subjects briefly and then step out of the teacher's way, except for comments on resources or activities. Lessons consist of reading assignments (I love the authors' helpful notes, such as, "[The indicated] books can be a bit lengthy to hold a young elementary student's attention. We recommend just covering the highlights" or "Note: Evolutionary content"), learning objectives ("Chidren should know...") and activities. As noted above, activities include drawing, writing, crafts, cooking, coloring, map-making or labeling, listening to music, having a tea party, and playing games. You can find questions for discussion under the heading Notebook Suggestions. There are many Internet resources scattered throughout the book. Reproducible activity pages abound, including maps, flags, crossword puzzles, word searches, and coloring pages. --Jean Hall, Eclectic Homeschool Online
