This book has arisen from a number of concerns. Perhaps the greatest is the incredible gap that often exists between the academy and the pew. Even worse is setting up our youth for faith crises because we stake Christianity on something inappropriate, like a particular version of the Bible or on the possibility of harmonizing the gospels. How often we forget that the living, exalted Christ stands at the heart of the matter. It is to Him the Bible points!

It is also the passion of the author to turn Christians on to seeing the Bible as God first revealed it. The Bible embodies the fact that God speaks to humans, and He speaks so that we can understand Him. God is a God who 'stoops to my weakness,' meeting us wherever we are in our understanding.

The chapters in this text are short--ten pages at most. Each one is meant to be self-contained and can be read in any order.
