“David Woo’s first book of poems is eloquent, poignant, superbly wrought. Like the major poet Henri Cole, Woo has achieved a fresh, highly individual imaginative language in the American modes of Wallace Stevens and Hart Crane.”—Harold Bloom
The Eclipses was selected by Michael S. Harper as winner of BOA’s third A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize. Woo’s artful remembrances weave together memory, mourning and transcendence. Ancestors, both literary and blood, are called forth as Woo struggles beyond his mother’s death toward heart-intelligent truths.
David Woo attended Harvard College, Stanford University and Yale University. His first poem appeared in The New Yorker in 1990, followed by eight subsequent appearances. The son of immigrants from China, he lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.
