Synopsis

In the north, there are days when the sun doesn't set, but rather lingers along the horizon for a few hours before launching its daylong journey once more. Composed of stories from the past and present, the topics range from hunting caribou with a bow and arrow, a grizzly bear visit while camping, escaping a devastating forest fire, rafting on the Yukon river, and many more. At the end of each story is section called "What do we know for sure?" that offers the reader greater depth and context.

About the Author:

Linda Goyette is a writer, editor, and journalist with a strong interest in oral history and contemporary storytelling. She has published four books of non-fiction including Standing Together: Women Speak Out About Violence and Abuse and The Story that Brought Me Here. Goyette's research skills are superb, and it shows. You can tell she has a journalist's background because not only does she bring immediacy to all of the first-person stories, she is also capable of dividing the supplementary and contextual information from the emotions of the first-person accounts by adding her own framing article after the short nonfiction story, which is very effective. --Perogies and Gyoza blog
