Patrick Moore's message is based on personal knowledge and experience -- as a member of a family who have been logging on northern Vancouver Island for three generations -- and as a lifelong environmentalist who was a founding member of Greenpeace. A forest ecologist by profession, he has a strong love for the rainforests of British Columbia. Written in clear non-technical prose, Pacific Spirit presents a powerful counterpoint to the claims of some environmental groups.

This is a book that consciously blurs the line between logger and environmentalist. An unattributed epigram at the front of the book sets the tone, saying, with more than a glimmer of devilishness, "A world without forests is as unthinkable as a day without wood." -- Canadian Geographic, May/June, 1996
