About the Author:
Admiral Stuart Platt completed a distinguished military career, and has followed it with a successful career in business, principally in the technology and defense sectors. Appointed under President Reagan as the Navy's first Competition Advocate General, he led an historic reform program to improve the way the Navy buys ships, aircraft and weapon systems. He was also deputy commander of the Naval Sea Systems Command, where he was responsible for the acquisition of Navy surface ships and submarines during the build-up of the 600 ship Navy. An earlier assignment included Officer in Charge, Navy Nuclear Propulsion Reactor Design School. Platt is a highly decorated Vietnam veteran and was recently named to the Cold War Leadership Hall of Fame by the Submarine Force Library and Museum Association.

Admiral Platt currently serves on the corporate boards of several companies. He is the Chairman of the Historic Ships Foundation in San Francisco and was a presidential appointee to the Board of Governors of the US Merchant Marine Academy. Admiral Platt has a Master of Science from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester as well as an MBA from the School of Business at the University of Michigan. He is also a graduate of the Executive Program, Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.

Duffrey Sigurdson is a journalist and media relations specialist. He has worked in Australia, S.E. Asia and Europe as well as the USA and Canada. He is also involved in the production of unmanned vessels for military and commercial use and he races ocean going multihull sailboats in international competition. He has recently taken up flying in order to pursue his interest in vintage WW2 aircraft.

Review:
...the closest thing to General Patton we will ever see on the business side of the Navy. -- Barbara Starr, Defense News

...throughout your naval career you played a critical role in the preservation of America's security and freedom... -- President Ronald Reagan, December 24, 1986

His persuasive advocacy of the benefits of competition makes this book an important voice in the national defense procurement debate. -- The Honorable Steven S. Honigman, General Counsel of the Navy 1993-1998
