About the Author:

Author Sue Fagalde Lick traces her Portuguese roots to her mother's grandparents, who left the Azores Islands in the 1890s. She used her many years of newspaper and magazine experience to capture the stories of the women interviewed for this book. She also wrote about Portuguese immigrants in The Iberian Americans and Azorean Dreams.
