This, the fourth volume of "The Rebbe's Letters" in English, contains a collection of personal letters by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, to individual Jews. Many people generously shared the correspondence they received, providing the opportunity to share the Rebbe's wisdom through his letters.

Hastened by the Rebbe's constant urging, twenty-four volumes of Hebrew Letters have been published to date. People from all walks of life turn to these letters, searching for advice to guide and instruct them in many of life's problems. Countless miraculous stories circulate of personal messages received through the Rebbe's letters, testifying to this direct communication with the Rebbe. A Lubavitcher custom, which is successfully practiced throughout the world, is to write a personal letter to the Rebbe, making sure you put your Hebrew name (example: Yaakov ben Leah, Yaakov son of Leah, or Ada bat Esther, Ada daughter of Esther), on it, then insert the letter between any two pages of this book. A moment later, thoroughly read the two pages you slipped your letter in between, and for sure, your personal response from the Rebbe is there in black-and-white for you. It works all the time, say Lubavitchers who practice this way of communing with the Rebbe.

Education is a primary concern evident in these letters. The Rebbe clarifies at great length the critical need of introducing non-denominational prayer in all public schools, emphasizing that this will create a recognition of Divine authority. Brushing away arguments based on Constitutional grounds, encroachment on one's freedom and the separation of Church and State, the Rebbe specifies that this prayer will lead to finer moral behavior.

The Rebbe's uncompromising stand on matters of Torah and mitzvahs are particularly evident. The Rebbe draws attention to the flagrant desecration of the Sabbath perpetrated by Jewish ocean liners and draws on his engineering expertise to prove that these ships function on this holy day.

Publishing this fourth volume of "Letters from the Rebbe" gives us the fervent hope that these letters will inspire and uplift, thus enabling an evergrowing number of people to benefit from the teachings, thought and wisdom of the Rebbe.
