About the Author:
Prof. Robert George Mertens, Ph.D.
Dr. Mertens was born in the Philippine Islands, Clark Air Force Base, the son of a U.S. Air Force sergeant, SSgt George R. Mertens and his wife, Emogene R. Mertens. He had six sisters, Joyce, Jeanne, Joan (Joan M. Johnston), Jackie, Janet and Jennie.
Growing up in the Air Force, the family traveled around the world, at various U.S. air bases. The family settled in Orlando, Florida, and shortly after, Robert Mertens entered the U.S. Air Force, following his father's footsteps, entering the Vietnam War as an airman, eventually attaining the rank of sergeant. Dr. Mertens married during his enlistment, returned to Orlando, Florida, entered college at the University of Central Florida (then Florida Tech University), graduated with his engineering degree and began working at Lockheed-Martin Corp. (then, Martin-Marietta Crop) as an engineer on the Patriot Missile program.
Dr. Mertens later worked at NASA as an engineer on the Space Shuttle Simulator, used for training astronauts for space flight.
Dr. Mertens left his engineering career to pursue his education in physics, in order to complete his understanding of many of the theories of physics we have today, in order to be able to present his ideas in the most cohesive and understandable way possible, in his book, The Theory of the Time-Energy Relationship.
Dr. Mertens continued his education and research in Electrical Engineering, pursuing work in Silicon-based quantum nanowires, producing several refereed journal articles on this subject.
