The rebellious and disobedient Little Tom goes to the dock and finds a box of fish. He progressively convinces himself that it wont hurt to look at the fish, climb in with them, enjoy a big sniff, lick the fish, and take a tiny nip where no one will ever notice. Soon he has stuffed his belly and is in serious trouble. He finds himself going out to sea on a boat heading for disaster. But all ends well as he gets home safely after learning some life-enriching lessons.
Early readers have been delighted with the thirty vibrant illustrations done in oils on canvas by the acclaimed Donna Brooks. As with The Rabbit and the Promise Sign, this artist-author teams highly successful previous book, the pictures captivate little children, while older children find the story highly enjoyable, and adults appreciate the art, the story, and especially, a third elementthe meaning and messages of the story.
