"After reading Releasing the Glory: The Secret of Joy, I bowed my head in thanksgiving to God...When we step into the glory of God, we step a little closer to eternity - when our reality on earth is more eternal than physical. This wonderful book will help you experience the incredible joy of God's glorious presence and may forever change your life." Paul Cain, author of The Word and the Spirit and
Senior Authority, Shiloh Ministries
We might expect this lack of joy among the godless, but even Christians seem to be living joyless lives. Listening to them talk, we hear of problems, sickness, financial woes, and fears; but seldom do we hear a Christian brother or sister speak of his or her great joy in the Lord. Except for a religious vocabulary, you might think you were talking with a person of the world.
Even our churches seem troubled beyond measure. We hear of dissension, strife, splits, and scandals. Pastors are quitting the ministry in disgust, and thousands of former church members now absent themselves from all church attendance. The shouts of praise and rejoicing of yesterday seem to be replaced with ceremony and complaining.
Are heaven's doors closed to us? Where's the joy that so characterized our walk with Christ after our conversion? Could we be equating happiness with joy and seeking that happiness where the world seeks it? If so, we're doomed to failure, for the world has not found happiness - merely amusement. Happiness is a response to happenings, but the secret of joy involves a response to Jesus.
Joy, true joy, has its origins in God and His Word. Jesus said: "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full" (John 15:11). I can find nothing in the Bible that has rescinded this commitment. God's joy is just as available today. Perhaps we have so fixed our gaze on the problems of life that we forgotten to look unto Jesus, the source and the object of our joy.
Since there is no greater healing power than joy, we need to bring God's joy into the hurts and wounds in our spirits and souls. We also must heed the admonition of the Apostle Paul, "Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord" (Philippians 3:1).
Take a relaxing breath and review the Bible's teaching on the source of joy, the characteristics of joy, and the expressions of joy. You'll soon have a life-giving fountain of joy bubbling up in your spirit and spilling over into every area of your life.
