This revised edition of Teaching Physics with Toys has many features not included in the (out-of-print) original edition. Twenty-two hands-on investigations encourage students in grades 3-9 to explore physics using toys.

In the introductory section, the authors provide their rationale for using toys as teaching tools, give a quick rundown of the book s features, and discuss model building with K'NEX toys. "Teaching Students to Be Scientists" provides an outstanding model of inquiry. This is followed by sections on graphs, writing in science, and safety.

Each activity builds on what students already know and includes important information such as time required, key topics concepts, and the relevant National Science Education Standards. This is followed by materials needed for the activity and its assessment, safety rules, and any templates needed for the activity. Next are notes for the teacher and step-by-step student procedures. There is an explanation of the scientific principles involved in the activity and suggestions for cross-curricular integration. This package contains excellent information, material, and fun activities useful to teachers at many levels. However, obtaining specific materials from a particular supplier, although relatively inexpensive, might be difficult for some teachers with limited budgets. Some activities offer the alternative of using convenient recycled materials instead of the specialized toys. This would be a good feature to have for every activity.
