This diverse collection of plays produced in 1993 brings together the works of six talented women. The subtitle, however, is somewhat misleading as no criteria are given for the selection of these works. Some of the plays have won awards, others have been selected at playwriting conferences, and all have merit, but whether they are the "best" is debatable without any methodology indicated. Having said that, let it be noted that these playwrights (Cherylene Lee, J.e. Franklin, Erin Cressida Wilson, Eve Ensler, Cheryl Royce, and Claire Chafee) do not disappoint in content or style. They present striking and often painful insight into the conflicts of family and loved ones. This is the second annual entry in a laudable series that the publisher intends to keep going for years to come.
