From Booklist:
Muir's examination of the pros and cons of women in the military, especially in the front lines, was originally published in Britain and so provides an interesting slant and many international, including American, examples. Voiced here are the mixed reactions from women and men of all ranks who served in the Middle East (Britain sent 1,000 women to the Middle East; the U.S. sent 33,000). Among the responses is this interesting summation: ". . . the addition of women has not caused the entire fabric of the British navy to fall apart." Undoubtedly, in the future the military will have more women at all levels; books such as Muir's can offer guidance on dismantling the remaining barriers. Denise Perry Donavin
