Kindergarten-Grade 3?Little Hedgehog hurries along as fast as his short legs can carry him, but he's still not quick enough to keep up with his mother and four brothers and sisters. He remains unflappable up until the moment a huge dog comes bounding up to him. Terrified, he curls into a tight ball as powerful jaws pick him up and carry him off, only to drop him further down the path. When he opens his eyes, he sees five prickly figures, and this time they really are his family. Rowe's detailed watercolors capture all the richness of the ripening berries, fallen leaves, and final flowers of autumn in the country. The mood is gentle, the creatures more tickly then prickly. Even the dog, which so frightens Little Hedgehog, appears playful and friendly.
