Theti-Cheri, daughter of Pharaoh, and her friend and protector Papyrus are on a mission to bring back to Thebes the mummies of 10 archers, long-dead warriors of Pharaoh Sekenenra-Taa. But the mummies lie in the desert, domain of the god Seth, and the malevolent deity will use the dead themselves in his attempts to destroy the intruders. Papyrus and Theti-Cheri will have to fend off wave after wave of evil mummies in order to survive and carry out their sacred mission.

About the Author:
Lucien De Gieter started off in the graphic-novel world as a writer for Spirou magazine, in 1961. He launched his first series, Pony,A" and collaborated with Peyo in the inking of the Smurfs.A" But it was with Tooot and Puit,A" the adventures of a young Japanese fisherman and a siren, that he gained his reputation as an author. In 1974, the first PapyrusA" strips were published in Spirou. This Egyptian saga quickly became very popular.

Grade 3–5—This Franco-Belgian comic set in ancient Egypt features the same conventional paneling and brightly colored cartoon illustrations found in "Tintin" and "Asterix," as well as the same spirit of adventure. Papyrus is the protector of Theti-Cheri, Pharoah's daughter, and they are on an expedition to return 10 mummies to Thebes. The vengeful god Seth attempts to derail their mission by bringing the mummies to life. The dialogue is stilted and mainly expository, and the drawings lack the originality and whimsy of Tintin and Asterix, but this will circulate among fans of those comics.—Lisa Goldstein, Brooklyn Public Library, NY
