In 1, 2, 3 Cheers for the Toronto Maple Leafs!, Matt Napier and Melanie Rose take us on a tour of Maple Leafs history though vivid illustration and rhyming verse. For children learning their numbers, it has never been this fun -- whether it's Tim Horton's number SEVEN, Darryl Sittler's TEN points in one game, the Leafs' THIRTEEN Stanley Cups, Rick Vaive's FIFTY-goal year, or celebrating the Leafs' ONE HUNDRED years as a team. This book captures the spirit of "Canada's game." 1, 2, 3 Cheers for the Toronto Maple Leafs! is destined to become a classic that will be handed down from generation to generation.

About the Author:
MATT NAPIER has written 6 children's books, 5 of which are on the subject of hockey. He lived in Toronto for most of his life, watching every Maple Leafs game he possibly could. After attending the University of Toronto, Matt studied law at the University of Windsor and now practices as a lawyer near Ottawa.

MELANIE ROSE is an award-winning illustrator of numerous books for young readers, including M Is for MapleZ Is for Zamboni and W Is for Wind. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art, she lives in Oakville, Ontario, with her son, two cats and dog.
From School Library Journal:
K-Gr 4—The history of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team is enumerated in this fun, fact-filled picture book. Numbers from one to 100 (increasing by increments of ones, then fives, then 10s) are introduced by brief rhyming couplets that highlight the team's logo, famous players, and championship games. While at times the verse is strained ("NINE times the Leafs were able to say/their rookie was better than any other to play/and won this award to start his career:/It's the Calder Trophy for Rookie of the Year"), the accompanying informational text succinctly elaborates on the highlighted topic. Rose's oil paintings prominently feature the team's trademark blue and white colors and realistically capture the energy of hockey games and the excitement of fans. VERDICT Sports aficionados will cheer for this well-designed combination of counting and trivia. Recommended for collections that serve hockey buffs.—Linda Ludke, London Public Library, Ont.
