Somewhere across the globe, like many men, women and inopportunely maturing ones, are dealing with some form of sexual dysfunction. Despite this, studies show that sexual malfunction also occurs in younger women (aged 18 to 29) with 21% citing physical pain during intercourse, 27 % experiencing non-pleasurable sex, and 16% feeling sexual anxiety. Overall, sexual dysfunction affects 40 to 45% of women and 31% of men. In women, the most universal negative aspects of declining sexual function is the inability to be aroused, have orgasms, and painful intercourse. Medically called Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD), this syndrome, commonly called diminished sexual desire, affects 8 to 14% of women (aged 20 to 49) or about 5.5 to 8.6 million women in America. Nevertheless, research shows that aging and sexual decline aren’t synonymous or inevitable. Sexual problems generally surface faster when healthcare issues like arthritis, cancer, depression, diabetes, heart and kidney disease, high blood pressure, and neurological disorders to name a few are present. Regrettably, many prescription drugs used to treat these disorders can cause a variety of problems that adversely impact sexual health. Negative lifestyle factors like excessive alcohol consumption, marital discord, poor dietary and sleep habits, sedentary lifestyles, obesity and stress can decrease libido. Additionally, when accompanied by declining hormonal levels, pre and post-menopausal women, like aging men may experience many different aspects of sexual decline. Ironically, in a 1999 study appearing in the Journal of the American Medical Association entitled Sexual Dysfunction in the United States: Prevalence and Predictors, researchers concluded that: “The strong association between sexual dysfunction and impaired quality of life suggests that this problem warrants recognition as a significant public health concern.” In August (2015) despite objections by 200 university researchers, drug experts and non-profit scientists, the first drug to treat HSDD called Flibanserin and marketed by the name Addyi, was approved by the FDA. Addyi however causes dizziness, fainting, nausea and somnolence (a strong desire for sleep, or sleeping for unusually long periods of time). This is why Addyi should be taken near bedtime. Other concerns or warnings which kept it from being approved in 2010 and then again in 2013 include risks of hypotension (low blood pressure), and syncope (temporary loss of consciousness). Furthermore, Addy users reported on average 4.4 sexually satisfying encounters per month, compared to 3.7 versus placebo, as compared to 2.7 before using flibanserin. Various healthcare officials contend that the risk wasn’t worth this small reward. Additionally, unlike the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra for men which works within 30 to 60 minutes, it takes several weeks or months to realize any results from Addyi. Correspondingly, the FDA recommends that patients discontinue its use after 8wks, if no substantial improvements in the signs of HSDD occurs. Healthcare professionals have continuously maintained that long-term sexual health and fitness are intimately intertwined with sustaining ones overall health. Correspondingly, the goal of Reigniting Flames of Sexual Desire Naturally: A Guide for Youthful and Maturing Women is to show the reader how naturally maintaining ones overall physical and mental health drives the sexual continuum. Secondly, to reveal how orgasmic release and increased sexual activity isn’t just a means for experiencing pleasure or creating new life. Biologically, orgasmic release recalibrates and reenergizes the body’s biochemistry that not only promotes healing, but drive the health continuum. Thirdly, revealing how naturally nourishing, and improving fluctuating aspects of hormonal and sexual communication systems can improve sexually transmitted brain signals sexual organ reaction time and performance.
