Good feelings abound as kind words and generosity get passed along to the janitor, the spelling teacher, other students, their families, and finally to Cassandra's own father, who ends up feeling so good that he brings home a kitten. Its eyes are so big and bright that the girl calls him "Buttons." Cote's beautiful acrylic, gouache, and watercolor-pencil illustrations add vibrant color and life to the double-page spreads. A few simple sentences appear on each spread and the story flows smoothly. The text itself is bold and easy to read. The multicultural cast of characters, both children and adults, is very expressive. With only slightly veiled didacticism, readers will learn that "what goes around comes around." While the book borders on being too cheerful and unrealistically sweet, children will still enjoy following the trail of this feel-good story.
