In Following the Red Bird, Kate Rademacher describes how she came to embrace a relationship with God after maintaining a pick-and-choose approach to spirituality for many years. Raised in a staunchly secular, liberal community, Christianity was never a path she had seriously considered. Married to a devout Buddhist, Rademacher was sitting on a cushion at her husband's meditation center one day when Jesus appeared unexpectedly in her consciousness and called her to follow him. She was baptized a year later to the day.
Part memoir and part meditation on Christian teachings, Following the Red Bird: First Steps into a Life of Faith explores not only the why of Christianity, but also the how. How do we learn to listen for God's voice? How do we apply Christian teachings to everyday life? How do we develop and sustain a relationship with Jesus? The image from the book's title becomes a metaphor for the ways Rademacher slowly discovers answers to these questions as she stumbles into a new life in the church. Both the searcher and the long-time believer will benefit from her experience and insight.

About the Author:
In her writing, Kate Rademacher explores the ways that we can listen for and respond to God's call. She grew up outside of Boston and now lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with her family.

Kate's debut memoir Following the Red Bird describes how she came to embrace a relationship with God after maintaining a pick-and-choose approach to spirituality for many years.Married to a devout Buddhist, Rademacher was sitting on a cushion at her husband's meditation center one day when Jesus appeared unexpectedly in her consciousness and called her to follow him. She was baptized a year later to the day.

In her memoir, Kate draws from her readings of some of the great faith and spirituality giants such as C.S. Lewis, Thomas Merton, Thomas A. Kempis, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. She also finds inspiration in the work of modern authors like Kathleen Norris, Barbara Brown Taylor, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Parker J. Palmer.

Kate is currently working on her second book about her experience as a foster parent.

Review:
"Rademacher's memoir is an honest portrayal of the confusion of discernment and the comfort of abiding and trusting in God." -Publisher's Weekly

"This modern, succinct meditation on grace amply demonstrates that following God is an ongoing journey. Personal failings, distance, and constant efforts to return mark a faith that is flawed and genuine and all the more convincing for its humanness." -Foreword Reviews, 5 hearts

"In Following the Red Bird, Kate Rademacher traces the steps of her journey into Christianity with suspense, grace, and power.  She describes with unfailing honesty and integrity how she experienced God calling her into a relationship with Jesus, to baptism, and to a life of Christian discipline and practice.  As we follow her riveting and joyful story, she inspires us to discern how God might be calling us, too."  - The Rev. Liz Dowling-Sendor, co-author of Wide Open Spaces: Women Exploring Call Through Stories and Reflections

"Kate Rademacher's debut book is a refreshing take on why spirituality--particularly the Christian tradition--matters. Kate leads the reader on a rare journey of listening for God's voice amid a busy world that overwhelms us with its buffet of choice. Her poignant prose helps us understand the significance of the spiritual path for our lives." - J. DanaTrent, author of Saffron Cross: The Unlikely Story of How a Christian Minister Married a Hindu Monk
