About the Author:

Robert T. Buckman is a communication professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette who has extensive experience in Latin America, including a two-year civilian assignment with the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay, Army Reserve assignments to Panama and Colombia and a Fulbright Fellowship to Chile. As a freelance journalist for different newspapers, he has covered elections in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela and Chile.

I have used The World Today Series Latin America version as a primary text in my Latin American seminar at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina for my ten years there as an instructor. It provides a good overview of each country in the region, to include history and current issues. Since it is updated annually, it provides good current information for my students in their study of the region. (David C. I have employed the Latin America volume from the Stryker-Post "World Today" Series for 26 years in 5 different college settings. Most of these affordable and objective volumes, updated annually, were written by Professor Robert Buckman. I used them as the primary textbook with my students at the Air Command & Staff College, Troy State University, the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, the Army War College, and Norwich University.
