About the Author:

Andrew H. Hedges is an associate professor of Church History and Doctrine at BYU, where he has taught since 1995. He received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. He is an editor on the Joseph Smith Papers Project and has contributed chapters to a number of LDS books. Richard Neitzel Holzapfel, the publications director at BYU s Religious Studies Center, received his PhD in ancient history from the University of California at Irvine. A popular speaker at BYU Education Week, he is the author or editor of many books.
