My primary hope is that this book will help you remember some of the best moments in Panthers' history, from Sam Mills' interception return for a touchdown during Carolina's first win in 1995 at Clemson to Steve Smith's 69-yard touchdown catch to end the playoff game at St. Louis in double overtime in 2004 to Cam Newton's 72-yard touchdown run with a flip into the end zone in 2012.

More than anything else, I intend this book to be a celebration -- as well as a thorough look at the people who made the Panthers' first 18 seasons noteworthy. I have been there for all of those seasons and thought the team is old enough to deserve its own history.

Don't get the wrong idea, though. This is not an extremely serious book. This book is designed to entertain as much as to inform. You'll find out about the man who was briefly a Panther before becoming a reality TV star, the time team mascot Sir Purr drew a penalty by jumping on a live punt during a game and the Panthers' remarkably bad run of losing coin flips in 2012.

The Panthers' future currently appears bright with Newton at quarterback, Luke Kuechly at middle linebacker and a decided upswing in the talent level since the disastrous 2-14 season of 2010. But while we're waiting for the Panthers to win their first-ever Super Bowl, let's take a trip back together in time. (The book covers the 1995-2012 seasons -- for a look at more recent seasons, check out my book "Panthers Rising," published in 2016).
