PreSchool-Grade 2—This glossy paper-over-board book (Teach Me Tapes, 2009) by Judy Mahoney introduces some basic Spanish words related to the seasons. Readers are taken through the months of the year and taught corresponding vocabulary. Each month has at least one song along with some basic dialogue about a typical activity presented in Spanish and English. Bright, bold illustrations accompany the text. The CD contains some of the dialogue and music. Oddly, the CD does not always completely correspond with the book. Although the changes are minor, they are disconcerting. Also, no pattern is apparent in how selections were made for what was included on the CD. It begins with music and dialogue presented in Spanish and English, but as it progresses, some of the songs are presented in only one language, and some of the dialogue is skipped. Near the end of the CD, the volume increases. Two errors in the text should have been caught by the editors. The music is bouncy and fun and most of the songs will be familiar to young children. However, they all don't translate well in both languages. Audio quality is clear, and the singing is exceptional. This book/CD set could be a useful resource for those teaching Spanish to young children, but it could have been much better if a little more care had been taken.—Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary School, Federal Way, WA
