Dr. Murry has distinguished himself as a scientist, clinician, and educator in the areas of voice and swallowing. He serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of The Voice Foundation, the Advisory Board of the International Association of Phonosurgery, and on the scientific advisory board of the Pan European Voice Congress. His early research in voice science encompassed a wide range of voice related topics, including underwater communication systems, laryngeal cancer, performer’s voice disorders, and laryngeal neuropathologies. His current research interests include voice disorders and issues in performers’ voices and neurolaryngology.
Ricardo L. Carrau, MD, FACS, joined the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Department at The Ohio State University as a tenured Professor April 2011. He is the Director of the Comprehensive Skull Base Surgery Program and Co-Director of the research and education laboratory ALT-VISION (Anatomy Laboratory Toward Visuo-Spatial Innovations in Otolaryngology and Neurosurgery). He also organizes, develops and promotes the Sialendoscopy and Salivary Disorders program and the Swallowing Disorders Rehabilitation Program. In the past, he served at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, as the Medical Director of the Swallowing Disorders Center, Director of the Division of Maxillofacial Trauma and as a member of the Division of Rhinology and Allergy, Division of Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery, Division of Skull Base Surgery and the Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery Center.
Karen M.K. Chan, PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Swallowing Research Laboratory at the Division of Speech & Hearing Sciences, The University of Hong Kong. She received her Speech Language Pathology training and PhD from The University of Hong Kong. Dr. Chan is an experienced clinician and researcher in the areas of voice and swallowing disorders. Her early research focuses on perceptual voice evaluation and voice training for professional voice users. Her current research interests are in assessment and treatment for motor speech disorders and swallowing problems in elderly, post-stroke individuals and head and neck cancer survivors.
