About the Author:
William Michael Davis earned his degree in Political Science from Villanova University. He is a former Congressional staffer and candidate for the Pennsylvania Legislature. He and his wife, Kathleen, reside in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
From School Library Journal:
Grade 8 Up—Readers are immediately drawn into this well-written biography with the story of how Obama, a little-known state senator from Illinois, came to deliver the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, which catapulted him into the national political limelight. Davis then goes back to present Obama's heritage and background, his childhood, education, work as a community organizer in Chicago, family life, time in Washington, and decision to enter the 2008 presidential race. Plentiful full-color and black-and-white photographs appear throughout, all of which are relevant and closely keyed to the text. Many of the pages have colorful sidebars featuring quotes from or about the Senator. An easy-to-use time line, extensive chapter notes, and a good selection of print and online sources for further reading round out the presentation. While this book ends early in the primary cycle, it is sure to be of interest to students doing research and to those who want to learn more about the man.—Heather Scribner, Lawrenceburg Community Schools, IN
