Book Description Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. London. Sphere Books Ltd. 1972. First Printing in this edition. Originally published the year before in 1971 by Weidenfeld and Nicholson. Soft Covers. Black wraps with orange and white titles to the wraps and spine. Minimal wear; spine is uncreased and fine at both ends. Some very light creasing to the rear and the usual faint age toning to the edges of the text block. The Prisoner of Sex was first published in 1971. The piece is Mailer's response to the 1960s Women's Liberation movement, though he spends much of the book attacking one literary critic, Kate Millet. Mailer has many issues with both the Women's Liberation Movement and Millett, who casts Mailer and authors Henry Miller and D.H. Lawrence as symbols of misogyny. Mailer's core point is that though women may try to equal men, this is unattainable and undesirable due to biological differences between the sexes. Hence the title: we are all prisoners of sex despite our greatest attempts to escape. Seller Inventory # MAR05.22003
