From the Publisher:
An important resource covering every aspect regarding the subject of telecommunications from the history, through every critical business and managerial process, to the latest technologies driving the industry such as VoIP, ATM, Wireless, and Fiber. Mr. Jones with his extensive knowledge in the industry offers readers an opportunity for readers to understand today's major technical changes in telecommunications, and how to integrate them into an organization's telecom strategy.
From the Author:
This book was written to educate as well as entertain. It was initially inspired by a telecom billing project which was so poorly managed that a service provider had to spend millions of dollars in unnecessary expenditures. The excessive costs were primarily due to inexperienced managers and lack of sustained technical leadership. With rampant competition in today's telco economy providers can not afford to not effectively train their leadership as well as their employees to meet the needs of the business. Their is nothing worse than watching a business spend 10 times more than what is necessary to do a job just because they did not know any better. Though it took a great deal of time to write this book over the past 2 years, I realized that their were many areas in a telecommunication providers business where processes could be streamlined, IT systems could be architected to ease integration concerns and most importantly their were many areas in a providers! organization that could be reorganized to provide tighter synergies and reduce costs. These organizations are many times accustomed to working as a monopoly. However due to regulation changes and competition, providers need to be able to respond to market and product changes quickly. Though taxing at times, It is my hope that the information provided in this book will be beneficial to telecommunication professionals everywhere. I spent a great deal of time making sure all aspects of the industry were covered in this book. From the managerial aspects of the business to the technology. I was able to draw on my many years of past professional challenges to come up with effective business stratigies to allow a provider to effectively compete. I sincerely hope this information educates students and experienced telecommunications professionals alike. Thanks for taking the time to read my work and I hope you find it beneficial for your organization.
