Giles Andreae is the author of many wonderful books for children including Giraffes Can't Dance, Rumble in the Jungle and The Lion Who Wanted to Love which won the Federation of Children's Book Group's Best Picture Book Award. He lives with his wife and children in England.

Illustrator: Sue Hellard is the illustrator of Princesses Are Not Quitters! She lives in London.

Grade 2-4-Warm, funny, bright pictures illustrate this story of a grandfather telling readers how bright his grandchild is. He starts off, "My grandson is a genius!/It's plain for all to see,/I'm sure it won't be long/Before he gets a Ph.D." The rhymes are successful and the rhythm is pleasant. However, one wonders for whom the book was written, as it certainly won't appeal to youngsters. The text seems to be a message from one winking adult to another and the references to Picasso and Gershwin will be meaningless to children. This is unfortunate, as the lively illustrations introduce a wry, spunky-looking grandfather and an adorable toddler who's sitting on the potty, taking walks with grandpa, and making paintings. The jovial man points out that with every activity, his grandson exudes a promising future. Despite the fabulous illustrations, this offering falls short.
