From the Author:
I tend to twitch when reading reviews, critiques or descriptions of my fiction; where do they come up with this stuff. But consensus on Lonely Hearts, Changing Worlds is strong, so I'll add my own 2¢: I think you'll be amused, entertained and stimulated, line-for-line, page-for-page.
From the Inside Flap:
Robert Wintner has said that "My fiction is a narrative account of those who win the only prize accruing to human beings"--that prize being the ability to achieve communion with someone else. This collection of stories epitomizes his intent, for it is an unlikely Valentine that follows lonely souls into secret places. You've glimpsed these people on the street. In shades of gray with eyes diverted, they convey solitary independence. Yet Wintner has fleshed them out in a dynamic range of settings, values and needs. Crab bait may not sound like the stuff of love, but romance is where you find it, whether sorting a bowlful of chicken guts, visiting Death Row, bounding off a wrestling mat or gazing out of a window on the ninth floor for thirty years. Every heart longs for love and more. Here, a romp in the hay, there a yodel in the dark or under the Kleigs. Throughout, the lonely hearts in these changing worlds circle the common issue with varying perspectives. Their success is measured, untimely, in the eyes of others who may come to recognize the unique characters who stand before them.
