From the Back Cover:
"Everybody knows the world has two types of music," quips David Byrne, "My kind, and everyone else's."

And here in the Western world we define "everyone else's" as world music, but the dichotomy is disappearing. It's a small world with a huge record collection. MusicHound World is the only travel guide your ears will need. It reviews and recommends thousands of CDs and provides pertinent bio and background information on 1,000 artists. You'll also discover styles, instruments and cultures in scores of informative sidebars and enjoy nearly 200 photographs (captured by the lens of renowned world music photographers, Jack and Linda Vartoogian).

About the Author:
Adam McGovern has written on every genre of music imaginable--and some inconceivable, which is what he likes best. He has plied this trade for Smug, COVER, B-Side, Raygun, Yahoo! Internet Life, Rock & Rap Confidential, the AlterWorld and Total TV Web sites, and a host of other outlets with similarly lax background checks. A childhood with more relocations than Dr. Richard Kimble gave him a lifelong taste for the rootless variety of world music. He was not raised by wolves as is widely believed, though his parents considered it regularly and still wonder if it's not too late. McGovern has published some of the earliest mainstream features in this country on major world artists like Anglique Kidjo, Zap Mama, and Boukman Eksperyans, as well as the groundbreaking Africa Fte tour. The panoramic cultural view needed for a volume on world music has been fortified by his writings on all other artforms, and his curation of international art exhibits in New York City, not to mention his effortless ability to sit back and be a Russian-German-Romanian-Irish Jew. McGovern comes to the MusicHound World project from baptisms by Rock and Lounge in the same series. He lives in New Jersey with his partner, Lynn, until their cat Mishka gets tired of them.
