From School Library Journal:

Gr 2-4-These slim, dry titles offer nothing new. While Animals and Plants focus on particular species, one page of text and a photo hardly do justice to topics such as tropical birds or "Products Made from Plants." Libraries with Kathy Darling's Rain Forest Babies (Walker, 1996) will be better served by it than with the generalized coverage provided in Animals. Likewise, Saviour Pirotta's Trees and Plants in the Rain Forest (RSVP, 1999) makes many of the same points and includes larger photographs than the second book. In the third title, Woods gives an overview including a definition, locations, products, and inhabitants of rain forests. The information is so brief and general that the book's value is limited, even for beginning researchers. Each of the volumes includes an index and glossary, although the selection of items to define seems arbitrary. The author includes the same four recommended Internet sites in each book. Most libraries are likely to have many better titles that deal with these subjects, including Barbara Taylor's Rain Forest (DK, 1992), which provides more arresting photos.-Kathy Piehl, Minnesota State University, Mankato
