In this book, readers rediscover the lives of the inhabitants of Kendell Mountain in the rural community of Union Gap, Georgia. The book continues the story begun in It Happened on Kendell Mountain, which introduced the reader to Alyn Russell and Cynthia, who became his wife. In A Very Wealthy Man, while Alyn and Cynthia are rebuilding their lives after great tragedy and David and Kate Harris struggle with the past, the appearance of a sinister carnival owner disrupts the community in which they live. The reader meets the Russell sons, John and Charles, who have problems of their own--they love the same woman, and the reemergence of old feelings brings havoc to the family. Linking the generations is a wise Native American who reflects the passage of time in this narrative of adventure and romance.
